CNE Terms & Conditions

These are the Terms & Conditions for Creative New England competitions.
These Terms & Conditions comply with and fall under the laws of New South Wales, Australia.

Eligibility

  1. The Creative New England competitions aim for broad engagement and are open to everyone and anyone.The competition themes and content will reflect the New England (Australia) region and the New England community, and everyone is encouraged to join in, including but not limited to:
  • Staff and students of the University of New England,
  • Alumni of the University of New England,
  • School students in the New England area,
  • Residents and members of the wider New England community, and
  • Anyone with a relationship to the people and places of the University of New England, Australia.
  1. If any participant is under the age of 18 years, they are required to obtain their parent’s or guardian’s permission to enter and agree to these terms and will be deemed to have obtained such permission by submitting an entry.

Entries

  1. Entries will comprise, variously, photography, creative writing, video, and music, as announced in each round via;
    1. the Creative New England Facebook group
    2. the University of New England’s Instagram page OR
    3. the Creative New England landing page 
  2. The acceptable format(s) and the deadline for entries will be prescribed in the announcement of each round. Any entry received after the deadline of each round will be deemed invalid.
  3. UNE reserves the right to verify the validity of all entries and to disqualify any entry which, in the opinion of UNE, fails to comply with these terms and conditions, contains objectionable content or infringes copyright.
  4. The announcement of each round will prescribe a theme with which all entries for that round must comply. Discretion as to whether or not an entry complies with the theme rests exclusively with the competition judges.
  5. Satire, commentary, parody, and humour are welcome but any entry deemed by the judges to be abusive, offensive, obscene, discriminatory, or derogatory will be ruled ineligible. All entries ruled ineligible will be immediately deleted from any public space and the creators of abusive, offensive, obscene, discriminatory, or derogatory entries will be removed from the group. Contributors of similar posts within the group may also be removed from the group.
  6. Entrants retain ownership of and all rights to their entries. As a condition of entry, the University of New England reserves a royalty-free, non-exclusive right to:
    1. Use your entry to promote future Creative New England competitions.
    2. Publish your entry on the University of New England or UNE Life websites.
    3. Publish your entry in the University of New England or UNE Life internal and external communications.
    4. Keep the files submitted, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that your entry can be used for these purposes.
  7. Entrants should also be aware that their entries are subject to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policies of the third-party site on which they appear (Facebook or Instagram) and as such their removal, use, and reproduction, may occur outside of UNE’s control, subject to these terms.
  8. The University of New England warrants that the owners of any entries published in the above ways will be credited and acknowledged as such. This credit will include the name(s) and, where possible and unless the entrant requests otherwise, contact details of the entry’s owner(s).
  9. Entries can be submitted at any time during each competition round via:
    1. the Creative New England Facebook group, or Instagram page, as nominated above. Entries via social media should be identified using the hashtag #CreativeNewEngland and specify the category of each entry, OR
    2. by emailing them to creativeNE@une.edu.au, stating the entrant’s name, address, phone number, and the category of the entry, OR
    3. as specified in each round announcement.
  1. Entrants can enter the competition only once per round unless otherwise stated in the competition round announcement.
  1. UNE collects personal information such as name, age and email address about entrants to enable them to participate in the competition and for the purpose of carrying out the competition. Any requests to access, update or correct information should be made to UNE via creativene@une.edu.au. UNE will make every effort to implement corrections to published information subject to the terms and conditions of the host site.
  1. Entrants agree to the publishing and disclosure of their entries, personal information (for the purposes of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW)), including their name and image in any marketing or other publications associated with the competition, UNE or the exhibition in any format, including but not limited to video footage, audio recordings, photographic images, written material or testimonial statements. UNE’s obligations related to the management of personal information are outlined in the Privacy Management Rule.
  2. Entrants agree to make the original of their work available for an exhibition, performance or event at the University of New England if required at a future date. UNE will contact the entrant via their social media profile or nominated email address to make any such arrangements.
  3. UNE will not be liable for any personal injury, loss, damage or expenses (whether direct or consequential) to persons or property arising out of or otherwise connected with this competition or entry into this competition.

Originality

  1. By submitting an entry, you warrant that the entry is the original, unpublished work of the entrant(s) nominated in the submission.

Categories

  1. Entries in each competition round will be accepted in the following categories:
    1. University of New England staff and students
    2. Community, including the University of New England Alumni
    3. Juniors (under 18 years of age)
  1. Discretion as to whether or not an entry complies with the category in which it is submitted rests exclusively with the competition judges.

Judging

  1. Competition judges will be drawn from the University of New England staff and alumni, and from outstanding local community arts workers, artists, and teachers.
  2. The judges for each round will be revealed in the announcement of each round. Judges may not enter any round in which they are appointed to be judges.
  3. The competition judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence nor discussion will be entered into regarding the judging process or the outcomes reached.
  4. Judging criteria will be prescribed in the announcement of each round.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded as prescribed in the announcement of each round. They will be awarded as either:

Judges’ choice across all categories

  1. First
  2. Second
  3. Third Place, OR

Category awards, one prize per category

  1. University of New England staff and students
  2. Community, including the University of New England Alumni
  3. Juniors

  1. The three entries judged bests in each competition round will receive a prize, these three prizes will be to the combined total of $300 AUD.

 

  1. Some competition rounds will also include non-cash prizes as detailed in the announcement of each round.

Such prizes may include:

  1. One-on-one mentoring sessions with competition judges, outstanding local artists, University of New England teaching staff, or similar.
  2. Access to a tutorial or other learning materials provided by competition judges, outstanding local artists, University of New England teaching staff, or similar.
  3. Free tickets to workshops, seminars, or other learning opportunities hosted by competition judges, outstanding local artists, University of New England teaching staff, or similar.
  4. Products, vouchers, or coupons donated by businesses or organisations who support the program.
  5. In each round, one entry will be publicly recognised as the “people’s choice” in the Creative New England Facebook group.
  6. The winners of each round will be contacted via the social media platform on which the competition round was run following the official results announcement. Cash prizes will be transferred electronically after the winner’s details have been confirmed. Other prizes will be mailed to the winners after their details have been confirmed.
  7. Prizes will be held by the University of New England for two weeks after the winners have been announced, after which time the prizes will be forfeited and become the property of the University of New England.

Notifications

  1. Winners will be notified by Facebook message OR via email (depending on submission) and publicly acknowledged via tagging in the Creative New England Facebook group.
