Things you need to organise before your stay
Unit Equipment
Before attending your Intensives you should check your Unit Equipment Requirements to ensure you will have everything you will need ready for your classes.
You can find your equipment requirements on your moodle unit page.
You can purchase online and have your equipment posted to you in advance from The Shop
The Shop on campus at UNE has a large selection of Unit Equipment that can be purchased online and posted to you in advance, or you can order, browse and purchase in person while you are here.
Student ID Card
It is a good idea to organise your Student ID Card with Safety Security & Information before your stay to ensure you have easy access to any of the rooms your classes may be in, or any resources you may need.
The Student ID application form can be accessed here.
Safety Security & Information will send it to your nominated address in the mail, or you can pick it up in person when you get to campus.
The team from UNE Life Safety & Security patrol campus 24/7 and put simply, are here to help you. As part of UNE Life, the team work closely with all areas of UNE and not only ensure a safe and pleasant environment, but are a wealth of information and assistance in times of need.

Accommodation
Whilst Armidale has a large variety of accommodation options, ranging from hotels, motels, Airbnb’s and more, it does book out quickly during busy times at UNE. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
You are sure to find warm country hospitality wherever you choose to stay!
For short-term student accommodation, we recommend checking the UNE Colleges and Smith House.

Another option to consider is a stay in the lovely historic Uralla, which is located only 23 kilometres southwest of the city of Armidale. A selection of quality and quaint accommodation options can be found here.
UNE Parking
From both the Parking Machines & the Strada Mobile Parking App you can purchase short term parking from 1 hour to 7 days.
Virtual permits purchased via the Strada mobile app can be purchased in advance before coming to campus. This avoids the que at the parking machine when you get here.

The best value for students that are here for intensives is a Purple 7 Day Pass for $15.00.
During intensive school periods, UNE Life Safety, Security & Information will have an increased presence in major carparks to assist students who might have difficulty. These staff will be wearing blue shirts and will be identifiable by the UNE Life or the Safety, Security & Information logo.
They will be happy to assist you with parking, or any other safety & information matters.
Transport
The College Safety Shuttle is a free service for students to travel to and from their college and town after 6pm. The shuttle is used to reach essential services in the center of Armidale. It operates during Trimesters 1 and 2, Tuesday through to Saturday, and departs Austin College, UNE, roughly every half-hour from start time. This service is available with the exception of public holidays.
To access this service, you will need your valid student ID card.

Armidale Taxis also operate 24/7. To book a local taxi, just call 131 008 or book online.
Public Bus Services Available
Edwards Coaches operate extensive services in the Armidale and Uralla areas. The UNE Public Bus Timetable can be accessed directly here.

Things that are handy to know while you are here
Located in the WO77, Integrated Agriculture building, the café is a kiosk-style café offering hot and cold beverages, and a selection of sandwiches and other small items you will find in the larger outlets. Open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 2pm.

Wander the beautiful university campus, where you can explore museums, dine at cafés, and meet the odd free-range kangaroo!
Natural History Museum
Discover the ‘Lightning Claw’ dinosaur and a range of fascinating Australian wildlife specimens collected and studied by UNE staff and students.
Museum of Antiquities
Discover antiquities from the ancient Mediterranean and near east, with objects and ethnographic research collections from Australia, South East Asia, New Guinea, the Pacific region, Mesoamerica and Africa.
University of New England Heritage Centre
Visit the Dixson Library or Armidale Teachers’ College (in town) for historical exhibitions and displays from the UNE archives and art collections.
Armidale Guided Heritage Tour
The Guided Heritage Tour is a two and a half hour taster of Armidale. You will be taken on a historical journey through Armidale with a lively and personal commentary from one of the tour guides. There are four opportunities to alight from the bus – at the New England Regional Art Museum, Aboriginal Cultural Centre, the Armidale Railway Museum, and the University of New England’s historic Booloominbah Homestead.
SportUNE
SportUNE is open early to late, 7 days a week and is considered one of the best university sporting precincts in Australia. It has state of the art facilities and a range of classes and membership options. Have a chat to the staff at SportUNE to see how you can make the most of the facility throughout your stay.
Belgrave Cinema
Belgrave Cinema is Armidale’s local movie theatre, managed and operated by UNE Life. The cinema offers discounted prices for UNE students, just bring along your student ID card when you are buying tickets.

Need a study space?
If you’re looking for a place to study with wifi, whilst you’re on campus feel free to drop into the Dixson Library the Law Library or one of the Computer Labs. All spots are located on campus, here’s how to find them.

What else can you do in town?
At around 1000 metres above sea level, Armidale offers visitors a truly evocative and unique experience.
No matter what time of year you visit, the New England weather is sure to turn it on. Four perfect seasons—from beautiful spring and clear summer days to gorgeous autumn colours and perhaps even winter snow.
Fleet Adventures
Fleet Adventures offer Scenic Flights, Helicopter Adventures & Warbird Adventure Flights. Their unique scenic flights and adventures take place over the spectacular Oxley Wild Rivers Gorges. Why not stay an extra day or two, book a helicopter ride over the scenic gorges and experience the highs of Armidale & New England.
Wild Swimming Spots, Waterfalls & Scenic Walks
Blue Holes picnic area is a popular spot with the locals, offering swimming and walking in a scenic bush setting in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park near Armidale. If you have access to transport while you are in the New England, consider a day trip along the Waterfall Way or a visit to one of many spectacular surrounding national parks and waterfalls.
