Know your J to R on preventing violence against women

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 1 in 3 Australian women has experienced physical and/or sexual violence since the age of 15. This is a pretty startling statistic to wrap your head around. Quite frankly, this is not good enough. We think education is the key to preventing some of these problems.

Continuing on with our A to Z on preventing violence against women, inspired by resources from Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria and Our Watch, we’re looking at ways everyone – regardless of your gender – can be an active bystander, help challenge gender-stereotypes, and promote respect within our classrooms and workplace.

Just don’t laugh at jokes that put women down

Know that gender inequality hurts men, women, and kids

‘Like a girl’ isn’t an insult: don’t use it like one

Make an effort to talk positively about strong and powerful women

Notice when a woman is interrupted or spoken over, and call it out
