Gender-based violence – violence directed at someone because of their gender – has deep and lasting impacts. It affects not just the person experiencing it, but their families, friends, workplaces, and whole communities. The effects can last a long time and touch every part of someone’s life. We all have a role to play in preventing and ending it.
We know that some people face higher risks of gender-based violence because of other forms of discrimination they experience. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, migrant and refugee women, women with disability, and LGBTIQA+ and gender diverse people are disproportionately affected.
